This tower was connected so much that we have to make a small digression back in the days when Peter I was still alive. She was built by his personal decree, but was then called Candlemas Earthen city (contrary to popular belief that the Sukharev tower was named by the Emperor in honor of Colonel L. Sukhareva, to support once the young Prince during the Streltsy rebellion, and then serving it here).
The tower represents one of the unique creations of Moscow architecture XXVII., consisted of three tiers: the first was carriageways, the second was “mathematical and navigation school” (translated later to St. Petersburg), and the third was entirely given over to Bruce, it housed his office, the laboratory, the Observatory. And here was held the meeting Neptunia society, a secret Council of state, which included the most close person of Peter Bruce, Menshikov, Lefort, etc.
Popular rumor attributed to the owner of the premises involvement in witchcraft and black magic, and treated him not always so sympathetic, as in the words from the novel Lazhechnikov “the Sorcerer at the Sukharev tower”:
“What makes our astrologer, magic, alchemist or, simply, the sorcerer, as he calls his people? Finish whether it is your calendar with a prophecy a hundred years? …Freezes still at the Sukharev tower, chasing the stars? If roasting in his forge, concocting the gold and the potion of eternal life? When we meet kind, eccentric scientist my obeisance. I have many love and respect him: he knows me better than anyone else — he prophesied it the future?”
If before whispering that within the walls of this tower were built lethal machines were produced a talking doll, able to the same and to walk, following the resignation of public opinion strengthened against Bruce as the wizard, which treats conspiracies, produces in his laboratory, the elixir of youth, knows the secret of live and dead water, holds a mystery of fate.
The last decade of his life Jacob Bilimovich Bruce held in his estate near Moscow Glinka that the arrow formed by the confluence of the river Thieves in the Klyazma. Here he created a magnificent manor ensemble with the Palace, Park, ponds, pavilions… and, of course, offices, laboratory, Observatory, library. And there was a lot of dungeons, which though still in possession of the magical book of Bruce, as well as countless treasures, obtained through the transformation of lead into gold.
The fame of the master-sorcerer was so loud that just in case Earl Bruce had a security population of about 30 soldiers. According to one legend, he was visited by the Ghost of Peter I (sohranilsya wing, which is called “house of Peter”), on the other — the owner of the estate was flying on iron dragon (but the number of classes in Sretensk tower took the invention of aircraft). At the third if at the wave of his hand from the gazebo started to flow out of the harp. In the following — that he was the servant… all of the colors consisting of: tray, cleaned (talking doll?!). And the most incredible, but steadfastly preserved the tradition is the story of skating on the frozen pond among the hot summer and in society of the many guests (in 1929, one of the Soviet researchers tried to prove the technical possibility of such a miracle).
It is known that the life of J. Bruce ended 30 April (new style), 1735, the Story of his death and burial is also covered with legends. The most fantastic reads that he promised to return (it’s best not to describe), the other that flew in the air ship (parts are also creepy). A more realistic version involves the burial of the count in the family vault unpreserved manor Church, and the most reliable is that he was buried “Russian Faust” in Moscow’s German quarter, in the Church of St. Michael. Before its demolition in 1929, the graves were opened, among them were found the remains in the well-preserved coat and jacket, with a stripe (or star) of the order of St. Andrew. Clothes sent to the Historical Museum, and the skull — in the Studio of the sculptor-anthropologist Gerasimov. And there he was lost.
But, there are precious collection of Yakov Bruce. Without direct heirs (his two daughters died in early childhood, and the wife in 1728), he bequeathed “for the benefit of the public Academy of Sciences” his “Cabinet korisnih things” (from antiquities and curiosities), as well as a library, the value of which can be judged by the fact that at one time it was J. Bruce gave a colleague Tatishev, a former subordinate, a list of the “tale of bygone years”. The library consisted of 1,500 volumes, consisted mainly of scientific publications (20 subjects) in 14 languages. Transported the wealth in St. Petersburg for 30 carts and only one was valued book collection in 975 RUB 81 kopecks.,
A lot of secrets within the story. So the Sukharev tower there, which supposedly immured Bruce protocols Neptunea companies and personal gold of Peter the great — not to check already. And even the graves there… And the memory of the mysterious identity of the descendant of the Scottish king are all alive…
